When you decide to undergo a cosmetic dentistry procedure, it is important that you have an initial, full examination of your teeth, gums, and jaw to ensure proper dental health and functionality. If a new patient has an improper bite, poor gum health, or tooth decay, the success of their cosmetic procedure can be greatly compromised.
On your first visit to our practice, Dr. Simmons performs a meticulous dental assessment that includes jaw ultrasound, X-rays, physical examination, and impressions of your teeth. This exam is mandatory for all new patients who come to our practice. Dr. Simmons's attention to detail assures patients that they are receiving the highest quality care, customized to suit their individual dental needs.
On your second visit to our office, you will undergo a thorough tooth cleaning and will then be ready for your consultation. You and Dr. Simmons will discuss the state of your current dental health and any treatments you may need to improve the condition of your gums, teeth and jaw. Then, Dr. Simmons will use his expertise and artistic eye to collaborate with you on deciding which cosmetic dentistry procedures will best allow you to achieve the beautiful smile you have always wanted!

Proper jaw function and a well-aligned bite are fundamental to the health and longevity of your teeth and smile. Every patient who enters our office will receive a full assessment of the movement and position of the jaw with regard to the complex system of teeth, bones, nerves, and musculature in the face to detect potential temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Dr. Simmons performs a technologically advanced, Doppler ultrasonic examination of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which allows him to evaluate joint pathology. In addition, Dr. Simmons utilizes X-ray and articulated impression models to evaluate each patient's individual physiology and to diagnose any disorders that may exist.
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) can cause chronic facial pain, headaches, ringing in the ears, neck pain, clicking or popping of the jaw, and misaligned bite. Often these conditions are degenerative, worsening over time if they are not addressed with therapy. The main objective of TMD therapy is to restore proper physiological interaction between the joint, jaw, and teeth.
Dr. Simmons offers a wide range of noninvasive therapies to help manage your TMD:
If these therapies are unable to reduce pain and restore a proper bite, Dr. Simmons can use restorative dentistry techniques (reshaping and modeling teeth with custom crowns and bridges) to regain optimal bite positioning and facilitate healthy jaw function. Contact us today for more information about TMD and the treatments we offer.

Porcelain veneers are an elegant way to dramatically transform the appearance of your smile. They can be used to enhance the color, shape, and alignment of your teeth, eliminating gaps and crookedness without the need for braces or orthodontics of any kind. Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are bonded to the front surfaces of your existing teeth. Because your veneers will be custom designed specifically for you, they will be virtually indistinguishable from your surrounding natural teeth. Veneers come in an extensive range of tooth colors, shapes, and smile designs to choose from, and we will work with you to help you select the smile that is perfect for you. At our practice, we are dedicated to using only the highest quality materials, so your porcelain veneers are guaranteed to be durable and resilient. With proper care, you will have a radiant smile for years to come.
Patients who have had porcelain veneers applied in our office are thrilled with the results. Their new smiles are brilliant and even, reflecting youthful health and beauty. Teeth whitening is a simple way to brighten your smile. Over time, teeth can become stained and dulled due to consumption of tea, coffee, soda, red wine, and the use of tobacco products. Reversing discoloration through bleaching is a simple process that produces beautiful results.
Composite bonding is an excellent, cost effective procedure that can fill gaps, fix chipped teeth, and conceal discoloration. Composite resin is available in a wide range of shades, making it easy to find the exact color you need to ensure that results are impeccable. Gaps, chips, or stains are filled or covered with thin layers of resin. Each layer dries in a matter of seconds upon exposure to a special curing light. Once the appropriate amount of resin has been applied to the area, Dr. Simmons will sculpt the bonding material into its ideal shape. Composite bonds are strong and natural looking, lasting from five to ten years with proper care.
Teeth that are partially covered by excessive or uneven gums can appear short, stubby, or unnatural, resulting in a "gummy" smile. For patients with overabundant gum tissue, Dr. Simmons is able to perform a procedure called gingival recontouring, in which this surplus tissue is safely and comfortably removed to reveal more of the tooth. Gingival recontouring proportions the gums with respect to the teeth, making teeth appear longer while maintaining a healthy amount of gingival tissue at the base. This procedure is most often performed in conjunction with another cosmetic enhancement, such as porcelain veneers or crowns to improve the over-all aesthetic outcome. You will emerge from these procedures with an even, natural looking gum that complements your beautiful new smile!

Dental implants are an innovative way to permanently and securely replace missing teeth naturally and securely without the need for removable dentures or bridges. Dental implants are composed of two parts, the implant and the crown. The implant portion is surgically embedded into the jawbone and the bone and tissue surrounding it are allowed to heal over a period of three to six months. After the bone has fully healed, the crown is placed atop the titanium implant to replace the missing tooth. A local oral surgeon working in conjunction with Dr. Simmons performs the implantation surgery, while Dr. Simmons designs the cosmetic crowns and attaches them to the titanium implant. He can even replace or repair damaged crowns placed by another dentist.
Not only do implants provide the most aesthetically pleasing solution to missing teeth, they also allow patients to regain much of the control and independence they had with their natural teeth. Unlike removable dentures or partials, dental implants permit patients to speak clearly and eat any type of food. Dr. Simmons offers all-porcelain crowns, or "caps" as they are often called, for patients with teeth that are badly damaged or decayed beyond the point of repair through traditional filling methods.
We use the revolutionary CEREC® system to provide natural looking porcelain crowns or onlays. These ceramic restorations are created while you wait, eliminating the need for a second visit. Using these all porcelain crowns, you will see no dark lines along the gum line. Results are flawless and natural, resembling a perfect, healthy tooth. Crowns can also be used for strictly cosmetic purposes, such as to restore badly stained or misshapen teeth. Contact us today for more information about porcelain crowns.

A dental bridge is a structure placed in the mouth to replace one or more missing teeth. Unlike dental implants that are rooted into your jaw, dental bridges superficially "bridge" or fill gaps, without the need for oral surgery. To secure a bridge into place, there must be two fixed points in the mouth to which it can be bonded. The teeth surrounding the gap must be fitted with crowns so that the bridge can be bonded between them. Bridges are firmly secured inside of the mouth so that they cannot fall out or be removed by hand. View before and after photos of dental bridges in our photo gallery.
For patients who have lost all of their teeth, custom dentures are a great replacement option. Full dentures are created by Dr. Simmons from a mold taken of your mouth so that they fit securely and comfortably on top of your gums. Dentures can restore proper chewing, speech, and facial shape and are easily removed for thorough cleaning.
Partials, or partial dentures, replace missing teeth in patients who have lost many, but not all, of their teeth. The partial denture, which is made up of replacement teeth attached to a plastic or metal base, fits into place by clasping to surrounding natural teeth. Partials, like dentures, are custom crafted, ensuring that their fit is as natural and comfortable as can be. Unlike bridges, partials can be removed for cleaning.
To provide natural looking ceramic restorations in a single visit, Dr. Simmons uses the revolutionary CEREC® system. Since crowns and onlays can be created while you wait, there is no need for a second visit. You not only save time, but also the trouble of living with a temporary crown or onlay.
Besides being faster, the CEREC® process is much less invasive and more comfortable. Dr. Simmons uses a special infrared camera to make an image of the treatment area, instead of making a mold. He can then use a proprietary software program on a computer linked to the CEREC® milling machine to design a perfectly matching ceramic crown or onlay that is ready to place as soon as it's finished. Another advantage is that Dr. Simmons is in charge of the whole process, instead of sending the fabrication job to an off-site dental lab.

You can view before and after photos of Cerec in our photo gallery.
